Landsat 9 Reprocessing Changes Thermal Data
While conducting standard Landsat Collection 2 Level-1 Landsat product validation, the USGS Calibration/Validation Team at the EROS Center discovered that a corrupt Bias Parameter File (BPF) was applied to Landsat 9 Level-1 data that were acquired on June 30th and July 1st, 2023.
On Wednesday July 12th, 2023, fifty-five Landsat 9 scenes were reprocessed to apply the correct BPF to the impacted data – these updates then propagated through the USGS Level-2 and Level-3 data processing systems as well.
Note: This affects the data from the Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS) only; Operational Land Imager (OLI) data were not affected with this reprocessing.
Data from these Landsat 9 scenes were reprocessed:
-
Path 77 Rows 230–244
-
Path 93 Rows 10–88
Please note that as data are reprocessed, each scene's Product Identifier will be updated to reflect the most recent processing date.
