As of February 15, 2022, Landsat 9 Collection 2 Level-1, Level-2, and U.S. Analysis Ready Data (ARD) data are available via the commercial cloud.

The USGS provides a full range of data products from the new satellite’s observations. Full-bundles, single-bands, full-resolution browse images, and U.S. Analysis Ready Data are now available for Landsat 9 Collection 2. In addition to cloud access, Landsat 9 products are available through traditional USGS data portals such as EarthExplorer, Machine to Machine (M2M), and the LandsatLook Viewer.

Data from Landsat 9’s Operational Land Imager 2 (OLI-2) provides higher radiometric resolution than Landsat 8 OLI (14-bits increased from 12-bits for Landsat 8), enabling sensors to detect more subtle differences, especially over darker areas such as water or dense forests. In addition to the OLI-2 improvement, TIRS-2 has significantly reduced stray light compared to the Landsat 8 TIRS, enabling improved atmospheric correction and more accurate surface temperature measurements.

“Landsat 9 is distinctive among Earth observation missions because it carries the honor to extend the 50-year Landsat observational record into the next 50 years,” said Chris Crawford, USGS Landsat 9 Project Scientist. “Partnered in orbit with Landsat 8, Landsat 9 will ensure continued eight-day global land and near-shore revisit.”

Landsat 9 data products are readily accessible for download at no cost to users. To learn more about how to access Landsat data and science products, please visit
