Carlsbad Caverns - Slaughter Canyon

Detailed Description

Spring wildflowers cover the landscape near the mouth of Slaughter Canyon near the south end of Carlsbad Caverns National Park. Slaughter Canyon provides exposures of the massive Permian reef limestone complex (Capitan Limestone [reef], Bell Canyon Formation [fore-reef slope], and Seven Rivers, Yates, and Tansill Formations [northwestern shelf area]) (Hayes and Koogle, 1958; Brown, 2006). The massive Capitan Limestone is visible on the right side of the canyon in the distance.
