Detailed Description
(left) A core sample collected during the drilling of a test boring in Selden, New York. This sample was taken from a depth of 650 feet below land surface and shows sediments commonly found in the Magothy Aquifer. The dark bands (lignite) are the result of abundant vegetation present during the Cretaceous period. (right) Lignite samples recovered during the drilling of a test boring in Amagansett, New York. Lignite is typically found in the Magothy Aquifer.
