Installing a Rapid Deployment Gauge in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Jym Chapman, USGS hydrologic technician (above), installs a Rapid Deployment Gauge in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, prior to Hurricane Matthews arrival. Tim Pojunas, USGS hydorlogist (below), measures an elevation reference point that will be used to calibrate the newly installed RDG, which will measure water-surface elevation and various meteorological parameters. These data are transmitted in real time by satellite and is used by local emergency managers and the National Weather Service for flood forecasting.
