Map of known active faults and earthquake probabilities in the San Francisco Bay area. When this map was published, the connection between the Hayward and Rodgers Creek faults was not known. The 72-percent chance of a large earthquake before 2043 includes both known and unknown faults. Simplified from the USGS Fact Sheet “Earthquake Outlook for the San Francisco Bay Region 2014–2043”.
