Multichannel seismic sled being deployed off ship

Detailed Description

The airgun sled is painted orange and suspended from the A-frame.  The three airguns are suspended beneath the sled. The multichannel digital streamer (yellow cable going into the water from the sled) is towed from the the weighted sled to keep it under the ice. This photo shows the number of crew required to safely deploy the airgun sled. This photo also shows US Coast Guard Cutter Healy circling behind Canadian Coast Guard Ship Louis in preparation for taking the lead and breaking a path through the ice for Louis.

[This set of photos provides selected image of two icebreakers working together in the Arctic Ocean.  All images were taken from aboard the Canadian Coast Guard Ship (CCGS) Louis S. St-Laurent (Louis), from which science crew from the Geological Survey of Canada, Canadian Hydrographic Service, and a U.S. liaison from USGS) were responsible for the multichannel seismic operations.  United States Coast Guard Cutter (USCGC) Healy (Healy) is the ship pictured in many of the photos and collected multibeam echosounder data while also breaking ice for Louis].
