Parking lots cover a substantial part of urban watersheds

Parking lots are a common feature of our urban environment.  USGS has estimated the spatial extent of parking lots across the U.S.  Some parking lots are treated with coal-tar-based pavement sealant, a major source of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) to the environment.
