Readying a thermal imaging system
Detailed Description
USGS scientist Ferdinand Oberle prepares the thermal imaging system that will point at the beach to capture plumes of water of varying temperatures. In the National Park of American Samoa, an algal bloom is overwhelming and killing the delicate, federally- protected corals. USGS hopes to identify the source of the algal bloom, using the thermal imaging sysem as well as other intruments mounted on the fore reef off the south shore of Ofu, Manuʻa.
