Detailed Description

The USGS Coastal Change Hazards Portal contains an interactive map of historical shoreline positions and shoreline change rates for Puerto Rico.

This dataset includes shorelines for ~120 years ranging from 1901 to 2018 for the coastal region of Puerto Rico, including the islands of Vieques and Culebra. Historical shorelines were compiled from a variety of sources including T-sheets, orthophotos, and lidar data. Depending on the location, there may be as few as three shorelines or up to 16, based on the availability and quality of shoreline data. Rate calculations were computed within a GIS using DSAS version 5.1, an ArcGIS extension developed by the U.S. Geological Survey.
