Detailed Description
An eastern box turtle may hide its legs, tail and head within its shell when disturbed. Visitors who find eastern box turtles at the USGS Patuxent Research Refuge in Maryland are encouraged to take photographs like these and send them to the USGS Eastern Ecological Science Center.
