Tree Rings from a Ponderosa Pine

Detailed Description

Tree rings from a Ponderosa pine in the Jemez Mountains, New Mexico. The pattern of wide and narrow rings is used to “crossdate” the tree rings to the exact years they were formed, in this case the years 1573 to 1598. The blue circles indicate decades and the two black circles indicate a micro ring in 1579.
