USGS EROS Hall of States (black and white)

Detailed Description

These lines lead to the world’s largest Landsat data archive. The USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota is home to millions of Landsat scenes, collected continuously for nearly 50 years.

The also includes aerial photography and imagery from a wide array of other satellite sensors, spanning from 1937 through today, all distributed at no charge through the Earth Explorer web portal.

The pathway in this black and white image from August 13, 2019 is known as the “Hall of States.” Landsat mosaics of each of the 50 states are on display in the hallway, a main thoroughfare for the 600 staff at EROS that also serves as a stop for the group tours that move through the Center several times each month. Like the data in the EROS archive, state mosaics are available at high resolution and no cost through the EROS website.

The Center is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Central time Monday through Friday, excepting federal holidays, with guided tours daily at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
