Learn more about USGS flood activities related to the Summer 2015 Central Floods that occured when heavy rains caused flooding in four states in the central U.S.

USGS Activities in the News:

Indiana: Heavy rains over saturated soils in Northern Indiana prompted additional streamflow measurement.

Kentucky: Flash-floods on already-saturated soils claimed lives and property in July.

Kentucky streams received a brief respite in June, but flash-flooding pushed the cumulative streamflow back toward record levels as shown in this example.

Texas: Drought-erasing rainfall in Central and Eastern Texas restored reservoirs but led to significant flooding in major cities.


Oklahoma: Statewide total May precipitation in Oklahoma reached record levels in 2015. Significant precipitation throughout May led to high streamflows, especially in the Red River basin.
