HayWired Working to Identify Interdependencies of Lifelines Including the Internet
The HayWired Earthquake Scenario team is working to identify physical damages associated with a M7.0 earthquake on the Hayward fault in the San Francisco Bay area. This includes in-depth ongoing meetings with Caltrans, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD), and Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), in an effort to identify seismic vulnerabilities to lifeline interdependencies. In addition, Haywired team will be working with Carnegie Mellon University, Silicon Valley to better understand impacts to the internet, the internet economy, and Silicon Valley. On Thurs, August 21st, Haywired team members Dale Cox, Anne Wein, Keith Porter, Lucy Jones, Keith Knutson, and Shane Detweiler met with the data center architect Bill Weihl, presently working with Facebook but formerly with Google and Akamai, to better understand and identify vulnerabilities associated with earthquakes and computer data centers.
