Recently, representatives from the USGS National Geospatial Program and National Geospatial Technical Operations Center participated in the 2017 International Cartographic Conference in Washington, DC.
GIScience professionals, governmental authorities, commercial cartography representatives, academics, and students of geoinformation, as well as related fields to include computer science, cognitive sciences and remote sensing were present at conference. This marks the first time that the ICC was held in the United States since 1978.
The conference included presentations and posters by 29 USGS experts on topics including semantic ontology; generalization and multiple representation; topographic map production; the 3D Elevation Program; Agile software development practices at the USGS; volunteered geographic information (The National Map Corps); and a host of other products and services available from the Bureau.
USGS maps were featured in the International Cartographic Exhibition and a special technical tour was provided to the USGS headquarters office in Reston, VA.
