USGS series information products consist of a Professional Paper, Scientific Investigations Report, Scientific Investigations Map, Data Report, Techniques and Methods, Circular, Fact Sheet, General Information Product, or limited-use Open-File Report. For Federal agencies only, there is also the limited-use Restricted-File Federal Interagency Report series. Additional information about USGS publication series is found in Survey Manual (SM) policy chapter SM 1100.3 and its Appendix A - Publication Series Definitions. The chapter provides information on the requirements and a summary of all series and other nonseries information products in which the Bureau publishes and its Appendix A provides more descriptive details including the different types of information and the content appropriate for each series.
