What We Do

Build USGS awareness of Tribal science needs, the federal trust responsibility, and the obligation to honor the government-to-government relationship that USGS has with American Indian and Alaska Native Tribes, and similar relationships with Native Hawaiian Organizations and Alaska Native Corporations. 

Facilitate the delivery of USGS science to Tribes to support the management of their lands and resources. 

Support efforts to co-produce science with Tribes and Indigenous communities and to include Indigenous Knowledge in USGS science and decision making. 

Support Tribes in building internal capacity by supporting USGS training events.  

Build new partnerships and strengthen current partnerships with Tribes, Tribal consortia, federal agencies, and universities. 

Encourage Native youth to consider careers in science and support them through mentorship and internship opportunities at USGS.
