Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Reflectance spectra of agricultural field conditions supporting remote sensing evaluation of non-photosynthetic vegetation cover (ver. 1.1, November 2022) Reflectance spectra of agricultural field conditions supporting remote sensing evaluation of non-photosynthetic vegetation cover (ver. 1.1, November 2022)

This data release contains spectra used to evaluate narrow-band shortwave infrared indices suitable for measurement of non-photosynthetic vegetation (NPV). The original data were collected using a proximal Analytical Spectral Devices (ASD) FieldSpecPro spectroradiometer, and are also provided in various states of processing, all of which is described in the manuscripts referenced below...

Soil surface properties and roughness data at two experimental restoration sites within the Southwestern USA Soil surface properties and roughness data at two experimental restoration sites within the Southwestern USA

This data release presents data used for analyzing spatial and temporal differences in soil surface roughness within selected biocrust communities. These records were collected by ground-based lidar for 121, 1m x 3m soil plots with biological soil crusts (biocrusts). Roughness was estimated from 5 mm resolution data (CloudCompare v. 2.10.2, 2019) for two Great Basin Desert sites (UTTR-1...

Data used to estimate groundwater salinity above the Montebello oil field (California, USA) Data used to estimate groundwater salinity above the Montebello oil field (California, USA)

This release contains borehole geophysical electrical log data (elogs), total dissolved solids sample data (TDS), and geostatistical program files used to estimate the salinity distribution in groundwater above and in the vicinity of the Montebello Oil Field, located near Los Angeles, California, USA. Original data are drawn from a variety of publicly available sources and are combined...

Evaporation at LZ40 Platform, Lake Okeechobee, Palm Beach County, Florida, January 1, 2020 - December 31, 2020 Evaporation at LZ40 Platform, Lake Okeechobee, Palm Beach County, Florida, January 1, 2020 - December 31, 2020

Daily measurements of evaporation using the Bowen ratio method were made at USGS station name LZ40 (USGS site number 265405080472100), a platform-based station constructed by the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) at the approximate center of Lake Okeechobee, Florida. Meteorological and environmental variables were measured every 30 seconds and averaged at 15-minute...

Algorithms for model parameter estimation, state estimation, and forecasting applied to a State-Space model coupled with the Kalman Filter for one-dimensional vertical infiltration to fractured rock aquifers Algorithms for model parameter estimation, state estimation, and forecasting applied to a State-Space model coupled with the Kalman Filter for one-dimensional vertical infiltration to fractured rock aquifers

The algorithms and input data included in this data release are used to interpret time-series data (water- table altitude, precipitation, and potential evapotranspiration) over an observation period to estimate model parameters of a State-Space (SS) model of vertical infiltration to a fractured-rock aquifer. The SS model is coupled with a Kalman Filter (KF) to estimate system states...

Water temperature data to support effectiveness monitoring of channel and floodplain restoration projects along the Willamette River, Oregon (ver. 1.2, May 2024) Water temperature data to support effectiveness monitoring of channel and floodplain restoration projects along the Willamette River, Oregon (ver. 1.2, May 2024)

Continuous water-temperature data were collected at multiple sites along the Middle Fork and mainstem Willamette Rivers between Jasper and Newberg, Oregon, to support effectiveness monitoring for a large-scale channel and floodplain restoration program (Willamette Focused Investment Partnership, WFIP). Continuous water temperature loggers were deployed at a subset of WFIP restoration...
