The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Data for Evaluation of Nutrient, Alkalinity, and Acid Neutralizing Capacity Stabilities in Water Samples Analyzed by the National Water Quality Laboratory -- 2023-2024 Data for Evaluation of Nutrient, Alkalinity, and Acid Neutralizing Capacity Stabilities in Water Samples Analyzed by the National Water Quality Laboratory -- 2023-2024

The U.S. Geological Survey evaluated the stability of water-sample chemical analysis of nutrient, alkalinity, and acid neutralizing capacity constituents with respect to the duration between sample collection and laboratory analysis, also known as sample holding times. Included in this data release are results used to evaluate the stability of the chemical properties alkalinity (as...

LA-ICP-MS U-Pb Geochronology Data for Igneous Rocks Constraining the Timing of the Great Lakes tectonic zone, central Upper Peninsula, Michigan, USA LA-ICP-MS U-Pb Geochronology Data for Igneous Rocks Constraining the Timing of the Great Lakes tectonic zone, central Upper Peninsula, Michigan, USA

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release accompanies planned publication ‘New constraints on location and timing of the Great Lakes tectonic zone, central Upper Peninsula, Michigan, USA. The data release includes laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) U-Pb zircon data and/or U-Pb apatite data for two samples from the Upper Peninsula, Michigan, USA...

At-site flood frequency for 422 streamgages in parts of the Upper Mississippi and Souris-Red-Rainy basins and surrounding areas in the United States, using data through water year 2013 At-site flood frequency for 422 streamgages in parts of the Upper Mississippi and Souris-Red-Rainy basins and surrounding areas in the United States, using data through water year 2013

This dataset contains site information and results of flood-frequency analysis for 422 streamflow gaging stations (streamgages) operated by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in parts of the Upper Mississippi and Souris-Red-Rainy basins and surrounding areas in the United States. Annual peak-flow data from the 1844 - 2013 water years were used in the study (U.S. Geological Survey, 2024)...

High-Throughput Microsatellite Genotypes for Desert Tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) in Ivanpah Valley (2011-2024) (ver. 2.0, December 2025) High-Throughput Microsatellite Genotypes for Desert Tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) in Ivanpah Valley (2011-2024) (ver. 2.0, December 2025)

Monitoring population connectivity to inform management is especially important in regions at the very edges of wilderness where native fauna and flora face habitat reduction, degradation, and fragmentation. One such region is the Ivanpah valley along the California/Nevada border, where development (i.e., solar facilities, recreational utility vehicle use) continues to encroach on the...

Carbon Dioxide Storage Resources - California Basins: Chapter Q, Spatial Data Carbon Dioxide Storage Resources - California Basins: Chapter Q, Spatial Data

This data release provides shapefiles that represent storage assessment units (SAUs) and drilling-density cells in the Central California Coast, Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Joaquin, and Ventura Basins of California in the United States. The SAU is the fundamental unit used in the National Assessment of Geologic Carbon Dioxide Storage Resources project for the assessment of geologic CO2...
