The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Estimated crop irrigation water use withdrawals in McMullen Valley Groundwater Basin, Arizona for 2023 Estimated crop irrigation water use withdrawals in McMullen Valley Groundwater Basin, Arizona for 2023
Observations of irrigated agricultural land within the McMullen Valley Groundwater Basin in Arizona. Crops were verified in situ three times in 2023, first on May 10th, then on Aug 24th, and finally on Sep 27th; based on digitized field boundaries. Field boundaries were digitized from U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Agriculture Imagery Program County Mosaic 2023 imagery for...

These data describe the prevalence of HP H5N1 infection and antibodies in Double-crested Cormorants at a single breeding site in the Chesapeake Bay.
Evaluation of preservation techniques for trace metals and major cations for surface waters collected from the U.S. Geological Survey's National Water Quality Network Sites Evaluation of preservation techniques for trace metals and major cations for surface waters collected from the U.S. Geological Survey's National Water Quality Network Sites
The USGS National Field Manual (NFM) states "A representative sample is one that typifies in time and space that part of the aqueous system to be studied" and "obtaining representative samples is of primary importance for a relevant description of the environment." The NFM contains detailed chapters on the best practices for representative and contamination free sampling of major and...
Geochemistry of ferromanganese crusts, nodules, and hydrothermally altered rocks from the Arctic Ocean Geochemistry of ferromanganese crusts, nodules, and hydrothermally altered rocks from the Arctic Ocean
Ferromanganese crusts, nodules, and hydrothermally altered rocks were collected via dredge within the Amerasia Basin in the Arctic Ocean during USCGC icebreaker Healy cruises HLY0805, HLY0905, and HLY1202 in 2008, 2009, and 2012 respectively. Dredged samples were donated and sent to USGS for subsampling and major and trace element geochemical analyses. Major and trace element data as...
Invasive carp harvest data and surveys of commercial fishers in support of stock assessment and abundance models, Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, 2009-2021 Invasive carp harvest data and surveys of commercial fishers in support of stock assessment and abundance models, Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, 2009-2021
The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources and Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency conducted observations onboard commercial fishing vessels. During these observations total lengths were collected from a subset of that capture which we have used to develop a length-based stock assessment of invasive carp. The first dataset represent harvest from the invasive carp harvest...
Effects of estrogens and atrazine on functional immune responses of largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) Effects of estrogens and atrazine on functional immune responses of largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides)
Disease outbreaks, skin lesions, fish kill events, and reproductive abnormalities have been observed in wild populations of bass in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Occurrence of synthetic and natural hormones from wastewater treatment plants and livestock operations, pesticides from agricultural lands, and phytoestrogens from cover crops have been implicated as potential causes of these...
