Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

The Basin Characterization Model - A monthly regional water balance software package (BCMv8) data release and model archive for hydrologic California (ver. 5.0, June 2025) The Basin Characterization Model - A monthly regional water balance software package (BCMv8) data release and model archive for hydrologic California (ver. 5.0, June 2025)

This data release accompanies the USGS Techniques and Methods report titled: "The Basin Characterization Model - A Regional Water Balance Software Package", and includes all necessary Basin Characterization Model version 8 (BCMv8) inputs and outputs for water years 1896 to 2024. The BCMv8 was refined from the previous BCMv65 version to improve the accuracy of the water-balance components

Lake Erie Aquatic Vegetation data Lake Erie Aquatic Vegetation data

Observations and subtle shifts of vegetation communities in western Lake Erie have USGS researchers concerned about the potential for Grass Carp to alter these vegetation communities. Broad-scale surveys of vegetation using remote sensing and GIS mapping, coupled with on-the-ground samples in key locations will permit assessment of the effect Grass Carp may have already had on aquatic...

Geomorphic Mapping of Fall Creek Lake, Oregon, 2016 Geomorphic Mapping of Fall Creek Lake, Oregon, 2016

The Middle Fork Willamette River Basin encompasses 3,548 square kilometers of western Oregon and drains to the mainstem Willamette River. Fall Creek Basin encompasses 653 square kilometers and drains to the Middle Fork Willamette River. In cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Geological Survey evaluated geomorphic responses to dam operations at Fall Creek Lake in...

Coseismic surface displacement and fault zone width measurements in the 2019 Ridgecrest earthquakes from WorldView optical image correlation Coseismic surface displacement and fault zone width measurements in the 2019 Ridgecrest earthquakes from WorldView optical image correlation

(1) Lateral displacement measurements made based on optical image correlation results from WorldView satellite images along with (2) local and regional rupture width measurements for the 2019 Mw6.4 and Mw7.1 Ridgecrest earthquakes, CA. These datasets are associated with the publication: Gold, R. D., DuRoss, C. B., & Barnhart, W. D., 2021, Coseismic surface displacement in the 2019...

Hydroacoustic data from central Lake Erie, 2020 Hydroacoustic data from central Lake Erie, 2020

Hydroacoustic estimates of fish density are used for fisheries management in central Lake Erie. Hydroacoustic data were collected along 8, randomly-selected, 5-kilometer transects and three transects between the US shore and the international border in central Lake Erie in July 2020. Software-generated raw variables used for calculating estimates of hydroacoustic fish densities are...
