The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Laboratory optical measurements for selected streams in the Clear Lake basin, Lake County, California Laboratory optical measurements for selected streams in the Clear Lake basin, Lake County, California

Clear Lake, situated in the Coast Range west of California's Central Valley, is the largest natural freshwater lake entirely within the state. It consists of three distinct arms: the Upper Arm-a large, open-water area to the northwest; the Lower Arm-a smaller, narrower section to the southeast; and the Oaks Arm-the smallest and narrowest region, located to the east. Water quality in...

Ground-motion records and site information for Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, 2006-2024 Ground-motion records and site information for Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, 2006-2024

This dataset includes processed ground-motion records and horizontal pseudospectral accelerations (5-percent-damped) from magnitude 4.0-6.4 earthquakes occurring near Puerto Rico between 2006 and 2024. The dataset includes 10,127 records from 849 earthquakes and 71 stations passing automated and manual review. Spectral values are provided at 21 periods (0.01-10 s). It also includes site

Droplet digital PCR data for environmental DNA surveys of Boa imperator in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, December 2023 and July 2024 Droplet digital PCR data for environmental DNA surveys of Boa imperator in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, December 2023 and July 2024

Invasive Central American boas (Boa imperator) have established a reproducing population on the western side of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, as shown by increasing physical capture rates. However, their prevalence throughout the island is largely unknown. The large snakes threaten endemic and endangered species through competition and predation, jeopardizing island biodiversity...

Digital Representation of Geologic Units Above and Beneath Jurassic, Triassic, Permian, Pennsylvanian, and Mississippian Periods from USGS Publications Digital Representation of Geologic Units Above and Beneath Jurassic, Triassic, Permian, Pennsylvanian, and Mississippian Periods from USGS Publications

Paleogeologic information directly above (supracrop) and below (subcrop) geologic periods from U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reports was digitized from scanned plates. Geologic periods maps include the Jurassic (McKee and Others, 1956), Triassic (McKee and Others, 1959), Permian (McKee and McKee, 1967), Pennsylvanian (McKee and Crosby, 1975), and Mississippian (Craig and Connor, 1979)...

Measurements and photographs of permafrost cores drilled on the Arctic Coastal Plain, Alaska Measurements and photographs of permafrost cores drilled on the Arctic Coastal Plain, Alaska

As the Arctic physical environment undergoes rapid change, permafrost conditions also are shifting. Thawing of ice-rich permafrost can cause terrain instability and compromise infrastructure as the permafrost excess ice content (EIC) melts – EIC refers to the volume of ground ice that exceeds the soil’s pore space when thawed. This dataset provides EIC depth measurements from 38...
