Data Releases
The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Data from 126 logged groundwater wells analyzed to assess geologic, topographic, and physiographic controls on the occurrence and distribution of fractures and transmissivity of water-bearing fractures in West Virginia Data from 126 logged groundwater wells analyzed to assess geologic, topographic, and physiographic controls on the occurrence and distribution of fractures and transmissivity of water-bearing fractures in West Virginia
This data release summarizes 126 borehole geophysical logs collected in fractured rock aquifers within the state of West Virginia. Data includes site information for the wells logged, in addition to all fractures identified as part of processing of borehole logs collected for the study. A machine learning algorithm was used to identify values in logs characteristic of specific lithologic
An enhanced national-scale urban tree canopy cover dataset for the United States Data Release (2025) An enhanced national-scale urban tree canopy cover dataset for the United States Data Release (2025)
Moderate-resolution (30 m) national map products have limited capacity to represent fine-scale, heterogeneous urban forms and processes, yet systematic improvements from incorporating higher resolution predictor data remain rare. In this study, we applied random forest models to high-resolution land cover data for 71 U.S. urban areas, moderate-resolution National Land Cover Database...
Geochemical data for groundwater and surface water from the Waste Rock Dam area, Sulphur Bank Mercury Mine, Lake County, California Geochemical data for groundwater and surface water from the Waste Rock Dam area, Sulphur Bank Mercury Mine, Lake County, California
The Sulphur Bank Mercury Mine in Lake County, California, was the site of historical mercury mining from 1880s through 1973.Since 1990, the mine area has been a Superfund site managed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). As part of a Remedial Investigation, the USEPA and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) are collaborating on a groundwater investigation in a part of the...
Groundwater tracing used to delineate recharge areas for subterranean streams at Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve Groundwater tracing used to delineate recharge areas for subterranean streams at Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve
Karst is a landscape where the hydrology of surface water systems is intricately connected to groundwater systems through the development of conduits and solutional opening in soluble bedrock, such as limestone, marble, or dolomite. This connectivity can present challenges to preserving water quality and quantity for karst aquifers, as activities that occur in karst areas can often have...
USGS National and Global Oil and Gas Assessment Project—Paleozoic Reservoirs of the Wind River Basin, Big Horn Basin, and Powder River Basin Provinces: Assessment Unit Boundaries, Assessment Input Data, and Fact Sheet Data Tables USGS National and Global Oil and Gas Assessment Project—Paleozoic Reservoirs of the Wind River Basin, Big Horn Basin, and Powder River Basin Provinces: Assessment Unit Boundaries, Assessment Input Data, and Fact Sheet Data Tables
This data release contains the boundaries of assessment units and input data for the assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources in upper Paleozoic reservoirs of the Wind River, Big Horn, and Powder River Basin provinces, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, and Nebraska. The Assessment Unit is the fundamental unit used in the National Assessment Project for the assessment of...
Estimates of United States bird trends and bird group relative abundance trajectories, 1970 - 2022 Estimates of United States bird trends and bird group relative abundance trajectories, 1970 - 2022
This dataset consists of estimates of population trends for 236 species and species complexes of North American birds, and bird taxonomic, primary habitat biome, or conservation status group relative abundance trajectories. Both sets of estimates cover the period 1970 - 2022. Sources of data include the North American Breeding Bird Survey (BBS), Christmas Bird Count (CBC), Waterfowl...
