Data Releases
The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Rio Grande chub and sucker habitat suitability in the United States and Mexico, 2012-2099 Rio Grande chub and sucker habitat suitability in the United States and Mexico, 2012-2099
Scripts and data that make up the habitat suitability analysis used in the Rio Grande Chub and Sucker Species Status Assessment (SSA). The scripts fall into two categories (as reflected in the src subdirectories): 1. Data processing to create Maxent inputs 2. Analysis and visualization of Maxent outputs Datasets include: 1. Data used to create habitat suitability predictors, in the...
Rare Earth Element (REE), Critical Mineral, and Geochemical Characterization of Manganese Oxide Ore Deposits in the Appalachian Mountains of Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia Rare Earth Element (REE), Critical Mineral, and Geochemical Characterization of Manganese Oxide Ore Deposits in the Appalachian Mountains of Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia
Manganese is a designated critical mineral, being industrially utilized for producing steel and batteries, including in the production of electric vehicles (Rozelle et al., 2021). The eastern United States hosts hundreds of manganese oxide mines that served steel production until their abandonment in the mid-twentieth century (Pegau, 1958). Many relict mines still feature accessible pits...
Daily ice cover fractions for 107,257 lakes in the Northern Hemisphere Daily ice cover fractions for 107,257 lakes in the Northern Hemisphere
This dataset provides estimated daily ice cover fractions for 107,257 lakes across the Northern Hemisphere from 1980 to 2022. The ice cover fractions were generated using a deep learning model trained on Landsat observations. The model's code is publicly available in the USGS GitLab repository: https://doi.org/10.5066/P13ZGUGE. The dataset consists of 42 CSV files, each corresponding to...
Site information, probability differences, and entropy-based metrics of streamflow information for the USGS continuous streamflow monitoring network, 1981-2020 Site information, probability differences, and entropy-based metrics of streamflow information for the USGS continuous streamflow monitoring network, 1981-2020
These data sets have at-site values of probability differences and entropy-based metrics to compare the effects of streamflow resolution, monitoring period, and record extension instead of monitoring on streamflow information. Source code for the R functions used to calculate conditional probabilities, conditional entropy, and mutual information are included in a compressed file with...
Niche model results predicting fundamentally suitable and unsuitable habitat for freshwater mussel concentrations in the Meramec Basin Niche model results predicting fundamentally suitable and unsuitable habitat for freshwater mussel concentrations in the Meramec Basin
This layer represents fundamentally suitable and unsuitable habitat for freshwater mussels in the Meramec Basin as modeled by these authors on May 17, 2017 based on spatial data ranging from 1990 to 2014. Identification of habitat characteristics associated with the presence of freshwater mussels is challenging but crucial for the conservation of this declining fauna. Most mussel species...
Age Data for River Terraces on the Marsh Creek Anticline (Arctic Alaska, USA) Collected 2023-2025 Age Data for River Terraces on the Marsh Creek Anticline (Arctic Alaska, USA) Collected 2023-2025
These data are in three tables with age data for river terraces on the Marsh Creek anticline, from samples collected at sites along Marsh Creek and the Katakturuk River in Arctic Alaska. The tables include: (1) Carbon-14 ages, (2) Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) age, and (3) Cosmogenic Beryllium-10 concentrations.
