Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Upper Mississippi River Floodplain forest floor vegetation and inundation metrics in Pools 4 and 8, 2015-2017 Upper Mississippi River Floodplain forest floor vegetation and inundation metrics in Pools 4 and 8, 2015-2017

We conducted this study in Upper Mississippi River Pools 4 and 8 to document the occurrence and cover of Phalaris arundinacea and other forest floor plants in UMR floodplain forests and relate measures of abundance of Phalaris, and community composition and diversity to estimates of flood duration which can exhibit high spatial heterogeneity. We used modeled inundation duration which...

Sulfur dioxide emission rates from Kīlauea Volcano, Hawaii, 2008-2013 Sulfur dioxide emission rates from Kīlauea Volcano, Hawaii, 2008-2013

Kīlauea Volcano on the Island of Hawai‘i was in a state of nearly continuous eruption from 1983 - 2018. Large amounts of sulfur dioxide gas (SO2) were released from the volcano’s East Rift Zone (ERZ) during the entire eruptive period, and from the Overlook vent at the summit of the volcano from 2008-2018. This data release presents ground-based estimates of SO2 emission rates from the...

SO2 emission rates from Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii (2014-2017) SO2 emission rates from Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii (2014-2017)

This report documents the SO2 emission rates for the period 2014-2017, from the summit and East Rift Zone eruptions of Kīlauea, along with the wind or plume speed and direction data used to calculate the emission rates.

USGS Thermal Tower Reef Camera Timestack, Papaloloa, Ofu, American Samoa USGS Thermal Tower Reef Camera Timestack, Papaloloa, Ofu, American Samoa

A digital thermal camera was installed at Papaloloa reef on Ofu, American Samoa and faced west along the beach. Every minute from February 3, 2020, to August 1, 2020, the camera collected raw radiometric snapshot images. The camera is part of a U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) research project to study the effects of temperature on coral reef health. USGS researchers analyzed the timestack...

Biological and environmental data collected in 2015 within mangrove habitats of Rookery Bay Preserve on Marco Island, FL. Biological and environmental data collected in 2015 within mangrove habitats of Rookery Bay Preserve on Marco Island, FL.

Mangrove restoration efforts often focus on planting seedlings and ignore the underlying physical parameters causing mangrove loss, such as disruption to the hydrological regime. In order to determine success of hydrological restoration, baseline data need to be collected and assessed from a degraded mangrove system undergoing hydrological restoration. Sample collection occurred within...

Whole Rock Analyses from the Yellowstone Plateau Volcanic Field Whole Rock Analyses from the Yellowstone Plateau Volcanic Field

The Yellowstone Plateau volcanic field and surrounding region is made up of over 3 billion years of geologic history, with 300+ separate rock types. To increase our understanding of the evolution of this active system and direct priorities for sample collection and field study, we compiled whole rock geochemical datasets from numerous thesis and papers (17 in total). We present these...
