Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Proximal remote sensing data (ultrasonic, time-of-flight-laser, multispectral reflectance) supporting on-farm measurement of cover crop performance in the Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, and Midwest, United States, 2020-2024 Proximal remote sensing data (ultrasonic, time-of-flight-laser, multispectral reflectance) supporting on-farm measurement of cover crop performance in the Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, and Midwest, United States, 2020-2024

This data release contains processed scan data from the Active Canopy Sensor (ACS) -214 proximal sensing instrument associated with 1242 cover crop biomass samples from 2020 - 2024 across 13 states. The ACS-214 is an active proximal sensing device equipped with its own light-emitting red and near-infrared spectral reflectance sensors, a time-of-flight laser, and an ultrasonic sensor...

Collection of Network Tools to Advance Climate Adaptation in the Southwest Collection of Network Tools to Advance Climate Adaptation in the Southwest

Adaptation to climate change, a complex problem that requires innovative and collaborative solutions, can be aided by connecting individuals and helping them take action. A number of new networks, projects, and collaborations in the Southwest, aimed at helping advance climate adaptation outcomes, have developed tools, toolkits, portals, platforms, guidebooks, and other resources aimed at...

Winter Sediment Oxygen Demand and Sediment Characteristics in Pools 4, 8, and 13 of the Upper Mississippi River, 2022 Winter Sediment Oxygen Demand and Sediment Characteristics in Pools 4, 8, and 13 of the Upper Mississippi River, 2022

Many ecological processes affect availability of winter dissolved oxygen (DO) concentrations in rivers, a key feature of overwintering fish habitat. Sediment oxygen demand (SOD) contributes to DO depletion, particularly during ice-covered periods, and may cause hypoxic conditions in backwater lakes, affecting availability of suitable overwintering habitat. Understanding drivers of SOD on...

Site characteristics: postfire soil hydrologic and biogeochemical response and recovery in northern California, USA Site characteristics: postfire soil hydrologic and biogeochemical response and recovery in northern California, USA

California’s wildfires are setting historic records for length, size, and severity (Safford and others, 2022, Kreider and others, 2024). These wildfires are altering soil processes like infiltration rates and carbon cycling over increasingly large areas (Staley and others, 2017; Kelly and others, 2020; Baur and others, 2024; Dow and others, 2024). In northern California, it is unclear...

Workflow and data supporting ensemble-based history matching and uncertainty quantification for selected watersheds from the National Hydrologic Model Workflow and data supporting ensemble-based history matching and uncertainty quantification for selected watersheds from the National Hydrologic Model

History matching of large hydrologic models is challenging due to data sparsity and non-unique process combinations (and associated parameters) that can produce similar model predictions. We developed an ensemble-based history matching and uncertainty quantification approach using an iterative ensemble smoother (iES) method for three cutouts of the National Hydrologic Model (NHM) and...

Total Applied Surface Water and Groundwater Irrigation Data from Four Areas to Support Analysis for Estimating Irrigation Consumptive Use for the Conterminous United States Total Applied Surface Water and Groundwater Irrigation Data from Four Areas to Support Analysis for Estimating Irrigation Consumptive Use for the Conterminous United States

This digital dataset contains irrigation applications and consumptive use at the agricultural-field scale (average 173 acres) and twelve-digit watershed scale (HUC12) for four regions in the conterminous United States representing calendar years 2000-2020. Agricultural field-scale irrigation depths of applied groundwater and surface water for selected agricultural fields were compiled...
