Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Stream Attributes and Habitat Intrinsic Potential Model Results to examine Freshwater Habitat Potential for Chinook Salmon in the Yukon and Kuskokwim River Basins, Alaska Stream Attributes and Habitat Intrinsic Potential Model Results to examine Freshwater Habitat Potential for Chinook Salmon in the Yukon and Kuskokwim River Basins, Alaska

Chinook Salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) are an important commercial, subsistence, and recreational fishery resource in Alaska, and recent population declines have resulted in closures of some Chinook Salmon fisheries. Research into environmental factors involved in the decline of salmon stocks has exposed information gaps regarding fine-scale freshwater habitat quality known to...

Analysis of data for Effects of formaldehyde (Parasite-S) on biofilter nitrification from a cold- and a warm freshwater RAS Analysis of data for Effects of formaldehyde (Parasite-S) on biofilter nitrification from a cold- and a warm freshwater RAS

This repository contains the code used to analyzed the water quality from a formalin study. We examined how formalin affected the total nitrogen and nitrite nitrogen in water that was passed through a biofilter.

Code to Support Chinook Salmon Freshwater Habitat Potential Modeling and Mapping for the Yukon and Kuskokwim River Basins in Alaska Code to Support Chinook Salmon Freshwater Habitat Potential Modeling and Mapping for the Yukon and Kuskokwim River Basins in Alaska

Code to support the "Freshwater Habitat Potential for Chinook Salmon in the Yukon and Kuskokwim River Basins, Alaska" project dataset. These Python notebooks and scripts process synthetic stream networks and DEMs to create unique reach contributing areas (uRCAs) and uRCA valley bottoms (uRCA VBs). The Python notebooks are designed to be run within ESRI ArcPro software and utilize the...

Mapping landscape connectivity for moose across the northeastern United States Mapping landscape connectivity for moose across the northeastern United States

Connectivity describes how well a landscape facilitates or impedes the movement of animals. Maximizing connectivity is a common management goal, especially for large mammals like moose (Alces americanus americanus) that occupy large home ranges and have the capacity to move long distances. Moose in the northeastern US (encompassing the states of Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts...

Salinity tolerance of grass carp and silver carp during egg and early larval stages Salinity tolerance of grass carp and silver carp during egg and early larval stages

We tested salinity tolerance of grass carp and silver carp eggs and larvae during two phases of development – pre-gas bladder inflation and post gas bladder inflation to the development of the second gas bladder chamber, using 6 different salinity concentrations ranging from 0 to 36 ppt. Growth and developmental rates were also observed after exposure. After the initiation of horizontal...

Light trap and larval trawl collection of bigheaded carp in the Missouri River Basin, 2016 Light trap and larval trawl collection of bigheaded carp in the Missouri River Basin, 2016

In the Lamine, Moreau, and Little Chariton rivers, light traps were used to capture larval bigheaded carps moving into tributaries. Traps were set on a weekly basis in each river, at roughly 1-kilometer intervals up to 7 km upstream. Ichthyoplankton tows were done in locations near the confluence of each tributary with the Missouri River, and within the Missouri River itself. Data...

Estimated crop irrigation water use withdrawals in Willcox Groundwater Basin, Arizona for 2023 Estimated crop irrigation water use withdrawals in Willcox Groundwater Basin, Arizona for 2023

Observations of irrigated agricultural land within the Willcox Groundwater Basin in Arizona. Crops were verified in situ three times in 2023, first on May 3rd, then on Aug 16th, and finally on Dec 19th; based on digitized field boundaries. Field boundaries were digitized from U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Agriculture Imagery Program County Mosaic 2023 imagery for Arizona and

SNP data for Karner blue butterfly samples from across the species range SNP data for Karner blue butterfly samples from across the species range

This dataset contains sample information about the origin of the butterflies sequenced, and their corresponding SNP genotype data. These data were used to examine patterns of genomic structure of the Karner blue butterfly from throughout its range. The raw sequence data are archived in the GenBank Bioproject PRJNA995790 at: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/bioproject/

Sediment Data from Vibracores Collected in 2021 From Central Florida Gulf Coast Barrier Islands Sediment Data from Vibracores Collected in 2021 From Central Florida Gulf Coast Barrier Islands

In 2021, scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center (USGS SPCMSC) conducted ground penetrating radar (GPR) and sediment sampling surveys on barrier islands located along the central Florida Gulf Coast (CFGC), Pinellas County, Florida. This study investigated the past evolution of the CFGC from field sites at Anclote Keys, Caladesi and...

Single-beam Bathymetry Data Collected in 2022 From Point Aux Chenes Bay, Mississippi Single-beam Bathymetry Data Collected in 2022 From Point Aux Chenes Bay, Mississippi

Scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center (USGS – SPCSMC), conducted a single-beam bathymetry survey within Point Aux Chenes Bay, Mississippi, in June 2022 under the USGS Field Activity Number (FAN) 2022-320-FA. The data was collected from two personal watercrafts (PWC): RV Shark (SubFAN 22CCT09, WVR1) and RV Chum (SubFAN 22CCT10, WVR2)...

Modeled daily salinity derived from multiple machine learning methodologies for 91 salinity monitoring sites in the northern Gulf of Mexico, 1980–2021 Modeled daily salinity derived from multiple machine learning methodologies for 91 salinity monitoring sites in the northern Gulf of Mexico, 1980–2021

This data release consists of statistical predictions of daily salinity time series generated from the makESTUSAL software repository described by Asquith and others (2023b). The statistical methods included multiple methods of machine learning, which produced the daily salinity prediction and attendant credible uncertainties included in the data release. The geographic scope includes...
