Data Releases
The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

inlpubs---Bibliographic information for the U.S. Geological Survey Idaho National Laboratory Project Office inlpubs---Bibliographic information for the U.S. Geological Survey Idaho National Laboratory Project Office
The R package inlpubs may be used to search and analyze 366 publications that cover the 74-year history of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Idaho Water Science Center, Idaho National Laboratory Project Office (INLPO). The INLPO publications were authored by 253 researchers trying to better understand the effects of waste disposal on water contained in the eastern Snake River Plain...
Chemistry Data from the Birney Test Site, Montana, 2018-2020 Chemistry Data from the Birney Test Site, Montana, 2018-2020
Data were collected to monitor geochemistry before and after an injection designed to stimulate microbial methanogenesis in the shallow Flowers-Goodale coal bed, near Birney in southeastern Montana. Waters from wells completed in the Flowers-Goodale, Nance, Knobloch, and Terret coalbeds at the Birney Test Site were sampled. Geochemical characterization of the water included non-purgeable...
Phytoplankton Data for Malheur Lake, Oregon, 2018-2020 Phytoplankton Data for Malheur Lake, Oregon, 2018-2020
Malheur Lake is a shallow, freshwater lake in southeastern Oregon. This data release includes phytoplankton data from three sites located in Malheur Lake collected from 8/8/2018 to 8/11/2020. For each sample collected, the phytoplankton were reported to the lowest taxonomic unit. Phytoplankton biovolume, algal cell concentration, and algal biomass concentration are included. All...
Field measurements of water depth from the American River near Fair Oaks, CA, October 19-21, 2020 Field measurements of water depth from the American River near Fair Oaks, CA, October 19-21, 2020
Field measurements of water depth were acquired from a reach of the American River at Sailor Bar, near Fair Oaks, California, October 19-21, 2020, to support research on remote sensing of water depth from satellite images. The depth measurements included in this data release were obtained via two different methods: 1) By wading the shallow channel margins with RTK GPS receivers and...
Field measurements of water depth from the Colorado River near Lees Ferry, AZ, March 16-18, 2021 Field measurements of water depth from the Colorado River near Lees Ferry, AZ, March 16-18, 2021
Field measurements of water depth were acquired from a reach of the Colorado River near Lees Ferry, Arizona, March16-18, 2021, to support research on remote sensing of water depth from satellite images. The depth measurements included in this data release were obtained along a series of cross-sections using a SonTek RiverSurveyor M9 acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) deployed from...
Stormwater-quality data in the control and test catchments during the calibration and treatment phase of a leaf collection study in Madison, Fond du Lac, and Oshkosh, WI, from September 2016 through November 2019 Stormwater-quality data in the control and test catchments during the calibration and treatment phase of a leaf collection study in Madison, Fond du Lac, and Oshkosh, WI, from September 2016 through November 2019
The data set contains phosphorus and nitrogen concentrations and loads measured as part of a study to determine if, and by how much, removing leaves and other organic detritus from streets, through municipal leaf collection and street cleaning programs, could reduce nutrient contributions to local water bodies. Stormwater runoff was sampled in paired, medium-density, residential...
Multibeam echosounder, video observation, and derived benthic habitat data offshore of south-central California in support of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management Cal DIG I, offshore alternative energy project Multibeam echosounder, video observation, and derived benthic habitat data offshore of south-central California in support of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management Cal DIG I, offshore alternative energy project
Coastal and Marine Ecological Classification Standard (CMECS) geoform, substrate, and biotic component (also known as "biotope") GIS products were developed for the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone of south-central California motivated by interest in development of offshore wind energy capacity and infrastructure. The lead agency responsible for planning and leasing in the Exclusive Economic...
Hydrogeologic Aquifer Test dataset, Lower Mississippi-Gulf Water Science Center, December 2020 Hydrogeologic Aquifer Test dataset, Lower Mississippi-Gulf Water Science Center, December 2020
Since the 1940's, commercial, academic and government hydrologists have used aquifer tests to estimate the hydrogeologic properties of an aquifer near test wells. Results from these tests are recorded in various files, databases, reports, and scientific publications. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Lower Mississippi-Gulf Water Science Center (LMG) is aggregating all aquifer test...
A Novel Gonadotropic Microsporidian Parasite (Microsporidium clinchi n. sp.) Infecting a Declining Population of Pheasantshell Mussels (Actinonaias pectorosa) (Unioinidae) from the Clinch River, USA A Novel Gonadotropic Microsporidian Parasite (Microsporidium clinchi n. sp.) Infecting a Declining Population of Pheasantshell Mussels (Actinonaias pectorosa) (Unioinidae) from the Clinch River, USA
Freshwater mussels of the order Unionida are among the most endangered animal groups globally, but the causes of population declines are often enigmatic with little known about the role of disease. In 2018, we collected wild adult pheasantshell (Actinonaias pectorosa) and mucket (Actinonaias ligamentina) during an epidemiologic survey investigating an ongoing mussel mass mortality event...
Laboratory and field data for selected turbidity standard and sensor comparisons, October 2014 to September 2017 Laboratory and field data for selected turbidity standard and sensor comparisons, October 2014 to September 2017
This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release provides continuously-measured turbidity data collected from ten sites in Kansas and two sites in Virginia from October 2014 to September 2017. All data are reported as raw measured values and are not rounded to USGS significant figures. Water-quality monitors were used to measure turbidity at hourly or fifteen-minute intervals for field...
MODFLOW-NWT groundwater model demonstrating groundwater model calibration with repeat microgravity measurements MODFLOW-NWT groundwater model demonstrating groundwater model calibration with repeat microgravity measurements
A numerical model was developed using MODFLOW-NWT and FloPy to simulate groundwater flow and demonstrate a practical method for incorporating repeat microgravity observations (i.e., small changes in the acceleration due to Earth's gravity) as a new type of calibration target for groundwater-flow models. The single-layer, 250-m cell size model was kept relatively simple to focus on the...
Database of horizontal component Fourier amplitude spectra of acceleration ground motions from Pacific Northwest earthquakes Database of horizontal component Fourier amplitude spectra of acceleration ground motions from Pacific Northwest earthquakes
This dataset includes quadratic mean Fourier amplitude spectra (FAS) of acceleration ground motions from crustal and intraslab earthquakes in the US Pacific Northwest with magnitudes 3.5-6.8 and hypocentral depths 0-62 km. The dataset consists of 8,028 records from 96 different earthquakes between 1999 and 2020. These data were used to study site response and basin amplification in the...
