The South Central CASC supports Communities of Practice who are dedicated to finding solutions to the challenges of a changing climate. The Communities of Practice comprise researchers and stakeholders who share a common interest and choose to invest their time in learning from others and developing new collaborations. As of March 2021, the South Central CASC is actively supporting six Communities of Practice. The Communities of Practice members meet together regularly and engage in a formal check-in with South Central CASC staff on a quarterly basis. The groups are also a key part of our Annual Fall Science Meeting where they outline goals and objectives for their group over the next year. The topics of interest for this year are based on discussions from the 2020 Fall Science Meeting.
- Sustainable & Usable Water Resources: Team members are interested in environmental flows and have been working on a synthesis paper for this topic.
- Enhancing the Resilience of Indigenous, Rural, & Vulnerable Communities: Team members are interested in better understanding community relocation in light of climate change challenges.
- Mapping & Predicting Changes in Species and Ecosystems: Team members are interested in understanding climate change impacts on species distributions and habitat management.
- Understanding Teleconnections that Influence Ecosystem Resilience: Team members are interesting in teleconnections from a multidisciplinary perspective.
- Cognitive Climate Corps: Team members have been actively working on developing a Cognitive Climate Corp website and adding new tools based on our PIs, Affiliates, and stakeholder community.
- Evaluation: Team members are interested in better understanding program and project evaluation and will help develop evaluation metrics.
- Understanding Uncertainties in Climate Products - Team members are working to provide resource materials to scientists and resource managers about how to communicate and work with uncertainty.
