Eligibility to Apply
Only state, territorial, local, and Tribal governments are eligible to apply. These entities must have the authority and capacity to carry out landslide hazard mapping, assessment, and data collection activities within their jurisdictions.
Academic researchers and institutions are not eligible to apply directly for this grant. However, there is one important exception: if a state geological survey or other related government office is administratively housed within a state university system, the university may submit a proposal on behalf of the state geological survey. This structure ensures that the program remains focused on supporting government-led efforts while still allowing for administrative flexibility in states where geological surveys and other related state offices are embedded within academic institutions.
Organizations that do not meet these eligibility criteria, including private companies, nonprofit organizations, and academic institutions not affiliated with a state geological survey, are encouraged to collaborate with eligible applicants as subrecipients. However, they may not serve as the primary applicant or principal investigator.
