Mineral Resources External Research Program (MRERP) 2009
2009 Mineral Resources External Research Program recipients and final reports.
In August 2008 the USGS Mineral Resources Program offered a grant and/or cooperative agreement opportunity through its Mineral Resources External Research Program (MRERP) to any individual who had the ability to conduct research consistent with Program goals and who was not employed by a Federal agency. Applicants can be affiliated (but are not required to be affiliated) with universities, State agencies, Tribal governments or organizations, industry, or other private sector groups. The 2009 MRERP received sixteen proposals that were reviewed by a panel of 7 research scientists (3 from USGS and 4 external to the USGS).
The FY 2009 MRERP solicitation included a call for proposals on a select number of nonfuel mineral commodities, as well as uranium. Because of the inclusion of uranium, the USGS Energy Resources Program (ERP) is collaborating with the Mineral Resources Program to fund the MRERP at a level of $310,000. At this level funding for 2009, only the top four ranked proposals are being awarded. The USGS is pleased to announce that it supported the following four proposals in the FY 2009 MRERP, listed in alphabetical order by principal investigator:
Proposal Title: Genetic Model and Assessment Criteria for Coles Hill-Type Uranium Deposits
Principal Investigator: Robert Bodnar
Affiliation: Virginia Tech
Award Number: G09AP00041
Final Report Files Provided:
Proposal Title: Geological Investigation of Uranium and Rare Earth Element Deposits of the Bokan Mountain Granite Complex, Prince of Wales Island, Southeastern Alaska
Principal Investigator: Jaroslav Dostal
Affiliation: Saint Mary’s University, Halifax, Nova Scotia
Award Number: G09AP00039
Final Report Files Provided:
Proposal Title: Magmatic Signatures of the Cretaceous Pebble Porphyry Mineralizing Event: Foundations for Exploration Targeting and Mineral Assessments for Concealed Mineralizing Systems
Principal Investigator: Craig Hart
Affiliation: University of Western Australia
Award Number: G09AP00038
Final Report Files Provided:
Proposal Title: Release Rates of W and Li from Dissolution of Common Ore Minerals in Aqueous Environments
Principal Investigator: Michael McKibben
Affiliation: University of California, Riverside
Award Number: G09AP00037
Final Report Files Provided:
