Feeding ecology of larval and juvenile American shad (Alosa sapidissima) in a small pond Feeding ecology of larval and juvenile American shad (Alosa sapidissima) in a small pond
Release ponds are used as part of a multifacet effort to restore American shad (Alosa sapidissima) in the upper Susquehanna River basin. Little information exists, however, on the feeding ecology of young shad in small ponds. Consequently, we examined feeding ecology and prey selection of 299 larval and 299 juvenile American shad in a small pond during spring and summer. Larval shad...

Control of external Aeromonas salmonicida: topical disinfection of salmonids with Chloramine-T Control of external Aeromonas salmonicida: topical disinfection of salmonids with Chloramine-T
Brook trout Salvelinus fontinalis were treated with single 60-min static baths of 250 mg formalin/L, 3% NaCl, and 15 mg Chloramine-T/L to evaluate the efficacy of these compounds against external infections of Aeromonas salmonicida. Prevalence of A. salmonicida was significantly lower in brook trout treated with Chloramine-T than among those treated with formalin or salt. Further...

Comparison of the effects of seleno-Lmethionine, seleno-DL-methionine, and selenized yeast on reproduction of mallards Comparison of the effects of seleno-Lmethionine, seleno-DL-methionine, and selenized yeast on reproduction of mallards
The toxicities of seleno-l-methionine, seleno-dl-methionine, and selenized yeast were compared. Ten pairs of mallards were fed a control diet and 15 pairs were fed diets containing 10 ppm selenium as seleno-dl-methionine, seleno-l-methionine, or selenized yeast. Hatching of fertile eggs was significantly lower for females fed 10 ppm selenium as seleno-dl-methionine (7.6%) and seleno-l...

Ground-water quality in the Calumet Region of northwestern Indiana and northeastern Illinois, June 1993 Ground-water quality in the Calumet Region of northwestern Indiana and northeastern Illinois, June 1993
Water samples were collected from 128 wells in a large industrial and urban area in northwestern Indiana and northeastern Illinois during June 1993. Samples were collected from wells completed in one of four geohydrologic units: surficial sand aquifer (Calumet aquifer), clay confining unit, confined sand aquifers, and a carbonate-bedrock aquifer (Silurian-Devonian aquifer). Samples were...

Water-quality assessment of the White River Basin, Indiana: Analysis of selected information on nutrients, 1980-92 Water-quality assessment of the White River Basin, Indiana: Analysis of selected information on nutrients, 1980-92
Water-quality data from 23 surfacewater-quality monitoring sites operated by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management and streamflow data from 11 U.S. Geological Survey streamflow-gaging stations in the White River Basin were analyzed to determine recent (1981 90 water years) water-quality conditions, trends, and river loads for ammonia, nitrate, total nitrogen, and total...
