Cassia Busch is a Geneticist at the USGS Eastern Ecological Science Center in Kearneysville, WV.
Cassia recieved a B.S. in Animal and Nutitional Sciences (2020) and a M.S. in Wildlife and Fisheries Resources (2022) from West Virginia University. She is a part of the Population and Conservation Genetics team at EESC where she does lab work leading to the genomic sequencing of environmental DNA samples for various projects ranging from deep-sea corals to pollinator communities.

The emerging field of Environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis allows characterization of species presence and community biodiversity by identifying trace amounts of genetic material left behind as organisms move through their environments. EESC scientists have been using eDNA technologies to detect native and rare species and as community biomonitoring tools.
