Drew Downs, PhD

Biography

I am a research geologist at the U.S. Geological Survey Hawaiian Volcano Observatory. My work focuses on physical volcanology, geochronology, geochemistry, and petrography, and their applications for understanding eruptions from basaltic to rhyolitic volcanoes. Much of my expertise has been to use various geologic datasets to map volcanoes and volcanic fields, and then work with collaborators to understand the volcanic hazards of a region.
