Aeromagnetic investigations of hazardous waste sites Aeromagnetic investigations of hazardous waste sites
Aeromagnetic survey data collected by helicopter over hazardous waste sites can be used to map the distribution of buried metallic (ferrous) objects at these sites, including drums and scrap metal. Magnetic surveys for locating abandoned wells Magnetic surveys for locating abandoned wells
Abandoned and unrecorded wells may act as conduits for the contamination of groundwater supplies by oil field brines and other pollutants. The casings of abandoned wells eventually develop leaks, which, if not properly plugged, can allow pollutants to reach freshwater aquifers that supply drinking water.
