S. Jerrod Smith
S. Jerrod Smith is a Hydrologist and Groundwater Modeling Specialist for the USGS Oklahoma-Texas Water Science Center. His recent projects simulated groundwater-flow and estimated groundwater availability in alluvial aquifers of Oklahoma.

Groundwater Modeling at the Oklahoma-Texas Water Science Center
The Oklahoma-Texas Water Science Center performs computer simulations using MODFLOW to simulate groundwater/surface-water interaction, quantify groundwater resources, and evaluate the effects of withdrawals on future groundwater supplies for aquifers in Oklahoma and Texas.

Leaching characteristics of a high-calcium fly ash as a function of pH: A potential source of selenium toxicity Leaching characteristics of a high-calcium fly ash as a function of pH: A potential source of selenium toxicity
Using a modified extraction procedure, the effect of pH on the leaching of selected elements from Ca-rich (Type C) power plant fly ash was studied. Continuous additions of acetic acid were used to maintain pH values of fly ash slurries at 4.0, 6.0 and 8.0 for 24 h and an additional set was leached at its natural pH (average 11.8) value. Analyses for Se, As, Ca, Cd, Cr, Fe, Na and Pb...

General geology and mines of the East Tintic mining district, Utah and Juab counties, Utah, with sections on the geology of the Burgin mine and the geology of the Trixie mine General geology and mines of the East Tintic mining district, Utah and Juab counties, Utah, with sections on the geology of the Burgin mine and the geology of the Trixie mine
This report is a study of the rocks, geologic structures, and mines of a highly productive silver, gold, and base-metal mining district in the east-central Great Basin. The East Tintic mining district is in the east-central part of the East Tintic Mountains, near the east margin of the Basin and Range province in Utah and Juab Counties, Utah. The district occupies the northeastern part...

Mariner 9 television reconnaissance of Mars and its satellites: Preliminary results Mariner 9 television reconnaissance of Mars and its satellites: Preliminary results
At orbit insertion on 14 November 1971 the Martian surface was largely obscured by a dust haze with an extinction optical depth that ranged from near unity in the south polar region to probably greater than 2 over most of the planet. The only features clearly visible were the south polar cap, one dark, spot in Nix Olympica, and three dark spots in the Tharsis region. During the third...
