Sophie Lafond-Hudson is a Hydrologist with the Upper Midwest Water Science Center.
Sophie joined USGS in 2023 and works on several projects related to aquatic contaminants in the upper Midwest. Her projects with USGS include apportioning biochemical oxygen demand in airport runoff, monitoring emerging contaminants in Lake Superior tributaries, exploring high resolution spatial patterns of water quality in large rivers (Upper Mississippi, Illinois) using the FLAMe platform (Fast Limnological Automated Measurements), and investigating patterns of sulfate and sulfide distribution in several Great Lakes estuaries (St. Louis River and Green Bay). Sophie also has interest and expertise in coastal wetland biogeochemistry and interactions between aquatic vegetation and natural and/or anthropogenic stressors.
