I am a phycologist and aquatic ecologist. Some of my interests are in the use of algae as ecological indicators, species distribution modelling, and harmful algal bloom (HAB) dynamics. My background spans studies of phytoplankton, periphyton, and macroalgae across marine, freshwater, and wetland environments. Currently, my research is focused on cyanobacteria HABs in freshwaters. I use a combination of observational and experimental approaches to understand patterns and drivers of HAB dynamics. I perform quantitative taxonomic analysis by microscopy to characterize whole algal assemblages and culture species of interest to answer species-specific questions.
