Carson River Basin Hydro Mapper

The Carson River Basin Hydro Mapper web application provides a modern and easy-to-use interface with the USGS National Water Information System (NWIS). It is also a one-stop location for visually descriptive summaries of USGS, SNOTEL, National Weather Service, Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service, and other local and regional hydrologic data with access to weather radar, watershed extents, and ancillary geospatial data, and real-time hydrologic conditions within the basin. The tool includes an interactive map viewer showing real-time information on stream flow, stage, and groundwater-levels, as well as available water-chemistry data for select constituents. Assembling the integrated data into a single repository allows for easier retrieval, analysis, and interpretation of data as needed for water resource management within the Carson River Watershed.
Note
In Carson Valley, very few wells are regularly monitored in community areas that are outside of municipal drinking water service areas. For example, one domestic well located outside the Gardnerville Ranchos municipal water service area has shown increasing nitrate levels, near the maximum contaminant level. In 2009, the USGS collected samples from wells within the Gardnerville Ranchos municipal service area, which showed nitrate concentrations of less than 1 mg/L. However, a cluster of domestic wells to the west of this service area has historically had nitrate levels between 1 and 12 mg/L. It is important to note that while the Carson Basin Hydro Mapper allows users to view and graph nitrate data from domestic wells, it may highlight areas with results that do not necessarily represent municipal water supply sources. Therefore, users should exercise caution when interpreting the data from the Carson Basin Hydro Mapper.
