Acquisition End Date

 

• Field Definition:  The last day of data acquisition.

               Format:

               YYYY/MM/DD

 

Acquisition Start Date

• Field Definition:  The first day of data acquisition.

               Format:

               YYYY/MM/DD

 

Auto Quality Flag

• Field Definition:  Indicates whether or not the file was output properly from the production software.

               Values:

               Passed

               Failed

 

Auto Quality Flag Explanation

• Field Definition:  Description of the context in which an Automatic Quality Flag was assigned.
  
   

Cloud Cover

• Field Definition:  Cloud Cover is the percentage of a scene that is obscured by clouds. It is an automatically generated value and is only an estimate.
  
  
  
  Note: Not all MODIS datasets provide a cloud cover value.
  
   

Coordinates - Decimal Degrees

• Field Definition:  The latitude and longitude are provided in decimal degrees for the following fields:

                 Values:      

                 Scene Center Latitude and Longitude

                 Northeast (NE) Corner Latitude and Longitude

                 Northwest (NW) Corner Latitude and Longitude

                 Southeast (SE) Corner Latitude and Longitude

                 Southwest (SW) Corner Latitude and Longitude

                 Latitude Format Decimal Degrees: -90.000 through 90.000

                 Longitude Format Decimal Degrees: -180.000 through 180.000

                 Number of decimal places will vary by dataset – check collection in EE.

 

Coordinates - Degrees, Minutes, Seconds

• Field Definition:  The latitude and longitude are provided in degrees, minutes, and seconds for the following fields:

                 Values:

                 Scene Center Latitude and Longitude

                 Northeast (NE) Corner Latitude and Longitude

                 Northwest (NW) Corner Latitude and Longitude

                 Southeast (SE) Corner Latitude and Longitude

                 Southwest (SW) Corner Latitude and Longitude

                Longitude Format:

                DDDMMSS.SSH

                DDD = Degree(s) with a range of 0 through 180

                MM = Minute(s) with a range of 0 through 59

                SS.SS = Second(s) with a range of 0 through 59.99

                H = Hemisphere with E for east and W for west

                Latitude Format:

                DDMMSS.SSH

                DD = Degree(s) with a range of 0 through 90

                MM = Minutes(s) with a range of 0 through 59

                SS.SS = Second(s) with a range of 0 through 59.99

                H = Hemisphere with N for north and S for south

 

Dataset

• Field Definition:  The short name of the MODIS data product.
  
   

Date Entered

• Field Definition:  The date the granule was entered into the EarthExplorer database.
  
   

Date Updated

• Field Definition:  The Date Updated refers to the date the inventory record was last updated in the EarthExplorer database.
  
   

Day or Night Indicator

• Field Definition:  This field indicates whether the data was collected during the day or night. If a collection granule is acquired along the day/night terminator line (sunrise or sunset), it is declared as "Both".

               Values:

               Day

               Night

               Both

               All (Includes Day, Night, and Both)

 

DOI Authority

• Field Definition:  System that provides an infrastructure for the registration and persistent reference of a Digital Object Identifier. The DOI name can be entered into a DOI Authority system to view the associated URL for the product.

               Example:

               http://dx.doi.org or https://doi.org

 

DOI Name

• Field Definition:  Digital Object Identifier is used to uniquely and permanently identify a dataset. The DOI name is more stable than a URL and is used as a permanent reference for the product. The DOI name can be entered into a DOI Authority system to view the associated URL for the product.

              Example:

              10.5067/MODIS/MOD11A1.006

 

Entity ID

• Field Definition:  The naming convention of each file is based on the Local Granule ID. The Entity ID may match the Local Granule ID for some data sets.

              Format:

              Swath Format: PPPPPPPP.AYYYYDDD.HHMM.VVV

              Grid Format: PPPPPPPP.AYYYYDDD.hTTvTT.VVV

              Global Format: PPPPPPPP.AYYYYDDD.VVV

              PPPPPPPP = Product Short Name

              AYYYYDDD = Julian Date of Acquisition

              HHMM = Hours & Minutes of Acquisition

              hTT = Horizontal Tile Number

              vTT = Vertical Tile Number

              VVV = Version Number

              Grid Example: MOD09A1.A2014177.h02v06.006

              Global Example: MYD11C3.A2004183.006

 

Horizontal Tile Number

• Field Definition:  Horizontal tile number of the 10º by 10º MODIS grid for the granule, which increases from left to right.

              Values:

              00 through 35

 

Local Granule ID

• Field Definition:  The name of an individual file provided by LP DAAC.

               Format:

               Swath Format: PPPPPPPP.AYYYYDDD.HHMM.VVV.YYYYDDDHHMMSS.hdf

               Grid Format: PPPPPPPP.AYYYYDDD.hTTvTT.VVV.YYYYDDDHHMMSS.hdf

               Global Format: PPPPPPPP.AYYYYDDD.VVV.YYYYDDDHHMMSS.hdf

               PPPPPPPP = Product Short Name

               AYYYYDDD = Julian Date of Acquisition

               HHMM = Hours & Minutes of Acquisition

               hTT = Horizontal Tile Number

               vTT = Vertical Tile Number

               VVV = Version Number

               YYYYDDDHHMMSS = Julian Date of Production

Missing Data Percentage

• Field Definition:  The percentage of data in the final granule that is missing; made unusable by sensor noise, cloud cover, or other phenomena; or otherwise unusable.
  
   

Product Generation Algorithm

• Field Definition:  Version number of the Product Generation Algorithm used to create the file.
  
   

Science Quality Flag

• Field Definition:  Quality status assigned by the MODIS Land Science Team.

               Values:

               Passed

               Inferred Passed

               Failed

               Inferred Failed

               Suspect

               Being Investigated

               Not Investigated

               Hold
