Public Affairs Office (PAO) Image Gallery Data Dictionary
The Data Dictionaries are a set of information describing the contents, format, and structure of elements for EarthExplorer products.
- Field Definition: The year, month, and day the image was acquired. The date of the first data acquisition is listed if more than one scene is used for the product.
- Field Definition: The latitude and longitude are provided in decimal degrees for the Scene Center Latitude and Longitude.
Latitude Format Decimal Degrees: -90.0 through 90.0
Longitude Format Decimal Degrees: -180.0 through 180.0
Number of decimal places will vary by dataset – check collection in EE.
Coordinates - Degrees, Minutes, Seconds
- Field Definition: The latitude and longitude are provided in degrees, minutes, and seconds for the Scene Center Latitude and Longitude.
Longitude Format:
DDDMMSS.SSH
DDD = Degree(s) with a range of 0 through 180
MM = Minute(s) with a range of 0 through 59
SS.SS = Second(s) with a range of 0 through 59.99
H = Hemisphere with E for east and W for west
Latitude Format:
DDMMSS.SSH
DD = Degree(s) with a range of 0 through 90
MM = Minutes(s) with a range of 0 through 59
SS.SS = Second(s) with a range of 0 through 59.99
H = Hemisphere with N for north and S for south
- Field Definition: The general category of the image collection for this data.
Example:
MODIS
LANDSAT
AVHRR
- Field Definition: The specific type of image collection for this data.
Example:
NED
MODIS
L7
- Field Definition: This field uniquely identifies the individual image. The Entity ID will differ for this eclectic collection as it references Earth as Art, Lewis & Clark, Landsat, NED, and various other identifiers.
- Field Definition: The general area where the image is located.
Example:
Western Asia
Alaska
Niagara Falls, NY
- Field Definition: The WRS (Worldwide Reference System) Path is the longitudinal center line of a Landsat scene, corresponding to the center of an orbital track. Sequential numbers from east to west are assigned to 233 nominal satellite tracks for Landsat 4 and 5. Landsat 1-3 satellites have 251 tracks (paths). The consistency and repeatability of the path for each satellite provides a common reference for all scenes acquired.
- Field Definition: The WRS (Worldwide Reference System) Row is the latitudinal center line of a Landsat scene. This nominal configuration begins with row 1 at North 80 degrees 47 minutes and ends at row 122 at South 81 degrees 51 minutes for daylight acquisitions. Row 60 corresponds with the equator at 0 degrees latitude. A total of 248 rows are involved for all Landsat missions. Rows 123-248 are associated with night acquisitions.
