USGS EROS Archive - Aerial Photography - Public Affairs Office (PAO) Image Gallery
The Public Affairs Office (PAO) Image Gallery collection is composed of a wide variety of data ranging from low altitude aircraft to satellite to NASA imagery. Dates span from the early ‘70’s to present.
The Public Affairs Office (PAO) Image Gallery collection contains a wide variety of images ranging from low altitude aircraft to satellite and NASA imagery. The collection includes historical imagery from multiple data systems used in publications, posters, and special projects over decades of EROS science. A majority of these images were archived on film media. The PAO film records were scanned, indexed and are searchable for no-cost downloads to the science community, educators and general public.
Also included in this collection are the Earth As Art 1, 2, 3, and 5 collections, Landsat State mosaics, and State elevation mosaics. Each PAO image tells a different story of natural disasters, the natural beauty of Earth phenomena, and unique perspectives of rivers, lakes, seas, mountains, icebergs around the world. The Earth As Art collections were developed for their aesthetic beauty rather than scientific interpretation.
Over time, the PAO will continue to grow as data sets from the “Image of the Week” are added and additional film images are scanned for data access. The “Image of the Week” posters are scientific observations that highlight current conditions or changes in water resources and land cover over time.
Downloads are available in TIFF (Tagged Image File Format). Approximate coordinates have been identified for this collection; images have not been georeferenced and no map projection or datum information is provided.
