The Data Dictionaries are a set of information describing the contents, format, and structure of elements for EarthExplorer products.
- Field Definition: The last day of data acquisition.
Format:
YYYY/MM/DD
- Field Definition: The first day of data acquisition.
Format:
YYYY/MM/DD
- Field Definition: The latitude and longitude are provided in decimal degrees for the following fields:
Values:
Coordinates in decimal degrees for the following fields:
Scene Center Latitude and Longitude
Northeast (NE) Corner Latitude and Longitude
Northwest (NW) Corner Latitude and Longitude
Southeast (SE) Corner Latitude and Longitude
Southwest (SW) Corner Latitude and Longitude
Latitude Format Decimal Degrees: -90.000 through 90.000

- Field Definition: The latitude and longitude are provided in degrees, minutes, and seconds for the following fields:
Values:
Scene Center Latitude and Longitude
Northeast (NE) Corner Latitude and Longitude
Northwest (NW) Corner Latitude and Longitude
Southeast (SE) Corner Latitude and Longitude
Southwest (SW) Corner Latitude and Longitude
Longitude Format:
DDDMMSS.SSH
DDD = Degree(s) with a range of 0 through 180
MM = Minute(s) with a range of 0 through 59
SS.SS = Second(s) with a range of 0 through 59.99
H = Hemisphere with E for east and W for west

MM = Minutes(s) with a range of 0 through 59
SS.SS = Second(s) with a range of 0 through 59.99
H = Hemisphere with N for north and S for south
- Field Definition: Date the data was last updated.
- Field Definition: System that provides an infrastructure for the registration and persistent reference of a Digital Object Identifier. The DOI name can be entered into a DOI Authority system to view the associated URL for the product.
Example:
http://dx.doi.org
https://doi.org
- Field Definition: Digital Object Identifier is used to uniquely and permanently identify a dataset. The DOI name is more stable than a URL and is used as a permanent reference for the product. The DOI name can be entered into a DOI Authority system to view the associated URL for the product.
- Field Definition: The naming convention of each file is based on the Local Granule ID.
Example:
Grid Example: VNP09H1.A2012041.h22v13.001
Global Example: VNP09CMG.A2017134.001
- Field Definition: Horizontal tile number of the 1200 km X 1200 km VIIRS grid for the granule, which increase from left to right.
Values:
00 through 35
- Field Definition: The name of an individual file.
Format:
Grid Format: PPPPPPPP.AYYYYDDD.hTTvTT.VVV
Global Format: PPPPPPPP.AYYYYDDD.VVV
PPPPPPPP = Product Short Name
AYYYYDDD = Julian Date of Acquisition
hTT = Horizontal Tile Number
vTT = Vertical Tile Number
VVV = Version Number
Example:
Grid Example: VNP09H1.A2012041.h22v13.001.2017010025838.h5

- Field Definition: Version number of the Product Generation Algorithm used to create the file.
- Field Definition: The data version for the VIIRS product.
- Field Definition: Vertical tile number of the 1200 km X 1200 km VIIRS grid for the granule, which increase from top to bottom.
Values:
00 through 71
