Hosted by the USGS Climate Adaptation Science Centers (CASCs), the Climate Adaptation Postdoctoral (CAP) Fellows Program supports applied research at both national and regional scales. Each two-year fellowship cohort is centered around a common climate theme. The 2022-2024 cohort is themed “The Future of Aquatic Flows.”
USGS Team Science Curriculum
USGS scientists are developing a team science curriculum to teach researchers from different fields and backgrounds how to work collaboratively and creatively to address complex environmental challenges, such as the impacts of climate change.
The team science curriculum was initially developed for the Climate Adaptation Science Centers network's Climate Adaptation Postdoctoral Fellows Program. This program is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for postdoctoral researchers from across the U.S. to conduct applied research on climate change impacts and is strengthening the USGS’s capacity for actionable and synthesis science. One key component is comprehensive training and professional development for postdoctoral participants, including in team science theory and best practices.
After it is formalized and refined, the team science curriculum will be released as a learning resource that can be used “off the shelf” by USGS scientists convening team science projects. When complete, the curriculum will be integrated into the Office of Organizational Development’s course offerings. Funded collaboratively by the Northeast Region, the Rocky Mountain Region, and the Water Mission Area, this project reflects the best of team science principles by bringing together diverse parts of USGS to achieve a common goal.
