Depth to Mesozoic basement for the USGS National Crustal Model Depth to Mesozoic basement for the USGS National Crustal Model

We present a numeric grid containing estimates of the depth to the pre-Cenozoic basement for the western United States. Values for these grids were combined and integrated from previous studies or derived directly from gravity analyses. The grids are provided with 1-km grid-node spacing in WGS84 latitude-longitude coordinates. Detailed information regarding the derivation of these...

Estimated peak geoelectric field strengths during a Carrington-class magnetic storm Estimated peak geoelectric field strengths during a Carrington-class magnetic storm

This dataset presents modeled estimates of peak one-minute-resolution geoelectric-field strengths at 1,616 survey sites across the contiguous United States during a hypothetical Carrington-class magnetic storm. The values are derived using magnetometer time series and magnetotelluric impedance tensors. Each entry includes a most-likely value and a 68% confidence interval.

Data Set S1 for "Coseismic Sackungen in the New Madrid Seismic Zone, USA" Data Set S1 for "Coseismic Sackungen in the New Madrid Seismic Zone, USA"

The New Madrid Seismic Zone presents significant seismic hazard to the central and eastern United States. We mapped newly-identified coseismic ridge-spreading features, or sackungen, in the bluffs east of the Mississippi River in western Tennessee. We use this mapping dataset in an accompanying manuscript to show that sackungen form during earthquakes on the Reelfoot fault and may fail...

Data for ground motions from induced earthquakes in Oklahoma and Kansas Data for ground motions from induced earthquakes in Oklahoma and Kansas

The dataset comprises information about the magnitudes, distances and periods of ground motion measurements from an analysis of earthquake ground motions from induced events in Oklahoma and Kansas. The data set also includes ground motion residuals from comparing earthquake ground shaking with commonly used models for predicting ground motions in the U.S.

Data for Holocene fault reactivation in the eastern Cascades, WA Data for Holocene fault reactivation in the eastern Cascades, WA

Significant uncertainty remains in how and where crustal shortening occurs throughout the eastern Cascade Range in Washington State. Using lidar imagery, we identified a ~5 km long lineament in Swakane canyon near Wenatchee, roughly coincident with a strand of the Entiat fault. Topographic profiles across the lineament reveal a southwest-side-up break in slope with an average of ~3 m of...

Incorporating teleseismic tomography data into models of upper mantle slab geometry Incorporating teleseismic tomography data into models of upper mantle slab geometry

Earthquake-based models of slab geometry are limited by the distribution of earthquakes within a subducting slab, which is often heterogeneous. The fast seismic velocity signature of slabs in tomography studies is independent of the distribution of earthquakes within the slab, providing a critical constraint on slab geometry when earthquakes are absent. In order to utilize this...

Slab2 - A Comprehensive Subduction Zone Geometry Model Slab2 - A Comprehensive Subduction Zone Geometry Model

Subduction zones are home to the most seismically active faults on the planet. The shallow megathrust interface of subduction zones host our largest earthquakes, and are the only faults capable of M9+ ruptures. Despite these facts, our knowledge of subduction zone geometry - which likely plays a key role in determining the spatial extent and ultimately the size of subduction zone...

2017 U.S. Geological Survey/BC Hydro seismic data recorded at three dam sites on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada 2017 U.S. Geological Survey/BC Hydro seismic data recorded at three dam sites on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada

In May 2017, we acquired high-resolution seismic profiles near three dam sites (Strathcona, Laodre and John Hart dams) located on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Our goal was to measure seismic velocities (particularly Vs) at each dam site using body and surface waves. The data were analyzed using refraction tomography and multi-channel analysis of surface waves (MASW)...

Data used to characterize the historical distribution of wildfire severity in the western United States in support of pre-fire assessment of debris-flow hazards Data used to characterize the historical distribution of wildfire severity in the western United States in support of pre-fire assessment of debris-flow hazards

Following wildfire, mountainous areas of the western United States are susceptible to enhanced runoff and erosion and an increased vulnerability to debris flow during intense rainfall. Convective storms that can generate debris flows in recently burned areas may occur during or immediately after the wildfire, leaving insufficient time for development and implementation of risk mitigation...

Seismic Hazard, Risk, and Design for South America Seismic Hazard, Risk, and Design for South America

These data were calculated to estimate seismic hazard, risk, and design across South America using the latest data, models, and methods. The input data to the model, as well as the output data are available here. The input data includes a seismicity catalog, seismicity rate models, evaluation of earthquake sizes, fault geometry and rate parameters, and ground-motion models. Output data...
