Evaluating Contaminants of Emerging Concern
Scientists are assessing the impacts of contaminants of emerging concern on Great Lakes fish, wildlife, and water quality by collecting and analyzing samples from tributaries to the Great Lakes.
The USGS Great Lakes Reserach Initiative (GLRI) is a collaborative, cross-disciplinary, integrative science program designed to provide resource managers with the information and decision-making tools needed to help restore the Great Lakes.
As part of GLRI, we collect samples at the Indiana Harbor Canal at Canal Street in East Chicago. Indiana for the GLRI Contaminants of Environmental Concern (CEC) program.
This year the CEC program is focused on pesticides. In 2017, the research focus will be PAH and in 2018 the focus will be Pharmaceuticals.
