Message from the Director

Welcome to the USGS home in Oregon.

Welcome to the Oregon Water Science Center (ORWSC), a multi-faceted science organization that collects, analyzes and distributes water information for Oregon and the Northwest Region. ORWSC is a field installation of the U.S. Geological Survey Water Mission Area, located on the Portland State University Campus. Since 1904, ORWSC scientists have been addressing hydrology issues important to people and communities in Oregon and beyond, including water use and availability, water quality, and water hazards like flooding, landslides, and contaminants.  We work closely with partners - tribes, federal and state agencies, municipalities, universities, and others - to provide gold-standard data, peer-reviewed scientific information, and applied research tools for natural resource management. ORWSC scientists are regional and national leaders in hydrologic data collection and quality assurance; groundwater, surface water and water quality modeling; water use and availability; geomorphology; contaminants; aquatic ecology; and collaborative ecological science.

Please explore our website to learn more about ORWSC projects and products. And, feel free to contact me directly. I’m happy to tell you about the work we do, hear about your information needs, and connect you with our scientists.
