Pennsylvania Water Science Center - Welcome

Welcome to the USGS Pennsylvania Water Science Center website for the water resources of Pennsylvania.

The PaWSC has a cadre of nearly 75 scientists, technicians, and support staff who work in cooperation with numerous Federal, state, and local agencies to provide unbiased scientific and technical information needed for the best use and management of Pennsylvania's water resources. The PaWSC monitors and disseminates real-time water resource data for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania at over 350 streamgages, 74 groundwater wells, 135 water-quality and 92 precipitation stations. The PaWSC characterizes the quality of surface-water and groundwater by collecting discrete samples in statewide networks and in statewide, regional, and local investigations. The results of these activities in some way affect every citizen, every day.

Our main office is in New Cumberland, just across the Susquehanna River from Harrisburg, with additional offices in Downingtown (Philadelphia), Pittsburgh, and Williamsport.

The USGS Pennsylvania WSC strives to meet the water-information needs of the public we serve. Please contact us if you have questions about our data or services, or to suggest improvements for our outreach. We look forward to hearing from you.
