Microclimate influences mangrove freeze damage: Implications for range expansion in response to changing macroclimate Microclimate influences mangrove freeze damage: Implications for range expansion in response to changing macroclimate
In this data release, we present data from three nights of chilling temperatures in 2015 (18th/19th January 2015; 18th/19th February 2015; 5th/6th March 2015) and from three nights of freezing temperatures in 2017/2018 (6th/7th January 2017; 1nd/2nd January 2018; 16th/17th January 2018). In the paper that accompanies this release, we synthesized hypotheses regarding the effects of...
Sap flow data from a long-hydroperiod forested wetland undergoing salinity intrusion in South Carolina, USA Sap flow data from a long-hydroperiod forested wetland undergoing salinity intrusion in South Carolina, USA
These data represent sap flow measurements from four tree species and were recorded every 30 minutes over several months in 2015. Data were collected from a tidally-influenced freshwater forested wetland at Strawberry Swamp, located on Hobcaw Barony, which is approximately 7 km east of Georgetown, South Carolina, USA.
Sedimentary data from the lower Pearl River, Louisiana, USA Sedimentary data from the lower Pearl River, Louisiana, USA
Scientists from the U. S. Geological Survey (USGS) St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center investigated the sedimentary and geochemical properties of the lower reaches of the Pearl River in eastern Louisiana by collecting estuarine, riverine and marsh sediments. This was done in order to increase understanding of the region's environmental history, quantify the deposition...
Forest community biomass and growth in Great Dismal Swamp, Virginia and North Carolina, USA Forest community biomass and growth in Great Dismal Swamp, Virginia and North Carolina, USA
Forest surveys were conducted in nine 20 m x 25 m study plots, split into 3 representatives each for three forest types in Great Dismal Swamp, VA and NC, USA, December 2015 - February 2018. Trees, saplings, and shrubs were identified to species and measured for estimates of standing stocks. Standing stock data include: tree diameter at breast height (dbh), height, and condition; sapling...

The Louisiana State Legislature created Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) in order to conserve, restore, create and enhance Louisiana's coastal wetlands. The wetland restoration plans developed pursuant to these acts specifically require an evaluation of the effectiveness of each coastal wetlands restoration project in achieving long-term solutions to...
The influence of hydrocarbon seeps on sediment macrofaunal biodiversity and functional traits The influence of hydrocarbon seeps on sediment macrofaunal biodiversity and functional traits
Chemosynthetic ecosystems in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) support dense communities of seep megafaunal invertebrates that rely on endosymbiotic bacteria for nutrition. Distinct infaunal communities are associated with the biogenic habitats created by seep biota, where habitat heterogeneity and sediment geochemistry influence local macrofaunal community structure. Here we examine the variance...
Stable isotope ratios of carbon and nitrogen from diamondback terrapins and resources within Southern Everglades and Key West National Wildlife Refuge, sampled 2012-2013 Stable isotope ratios of carbon and nitrogen from diamondback terrapins and resources within Southern Everglades and Key West National Wildlife Refuge, sampled 2012-2013
This study was initiated to provide baseline data and to determine the utility of stable isotope analysis to evaluate the foraging strategies of an opportunistic reptile predator. Stable isotope ratios of carbon and nitrogen were evaluated from multiple tissues from terrapin populations to determine spatial or temporal variations in resource use within mangrove habitats in Southern...
Coastwide Reference Monitoring System (CRMS) 2016 land-water classifications Coastwide Reference Monitoring System (CRMS) 2016 land-water classifications
Wetland restoration efforts conducted by the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) in Louisiana rely on monitoring efforts to determine the efficacy of these efforts. The Coastwide Reference Monitoring System (CRMS) was developed to assist in a multiple-reference approach that uses aspects of hydrogeomorphic functional assessments and probabilistic sampling...

Data release for Food-web structure canyon- and slope-associated fauna revealed by stable isotopes Data release for Food-web structure canyon- and slope-associated fauna revealed by stable isotopes
The primary objective of this study was to assess deepsea food web structure and trophic niches in Baltimore and Norfolk canyons, the adjacent slopes, and chemosynthetic seeps along the mid-Atlantic margin using stable isotope analyses (SIA) and isotope niche width analysis. We hypothesized that the isotopic compositions of canyon versus slope fauna would be distinct, given differences...

Soil properties, soil radioisotope activity, and end-of-season belowground biomass across Barataria basin wetlands (2016) Soil properties, soil radioisotope activity, and end-of-season belowground biomass across Barataria basin wetlands (2016)
The sustainability of coastal wetlands largely hinges on their ability to accrue elevation capital at a rate that equals or exceeds relative sea-level rise. A better understanding of these processes is needed to accurately assess the sustainability of these landscapes, and to predict their response to restoration measures such as sediment delivery through river diversions.
